Tropical hardwood core — stronger than standard plywood

About Tujenge Marine Boards

Marine boards — also referred to as marine plywood — are a step above ordinary construction boards. Unlike standard plywood that weakens and warps when exposed to moisture, marine boards are specifically engineered to perform in wet, humid, and high-load environments. Tujenge Marine Boards are sourced from Jinsen International Wood Industry, a globally recognised manufacturer, and made from dense tropical hardwood veneers layered and pressed together with waterproof phenolic resin — giving them exceptional structural integrity throughout their lifespan.

Each 4ft × 8ft sheet is uniform in density, free of core voids, and sanded smooth on both faces — making them ready for any application from roofing substrates to interior furniture work.

What Makes Them Better Than Regular Plywood?
  • More veneer layers — typically 5 or more compared to 3 in standard plywood — for added rigidity and strength
  • Waterproof phenolic glue that resists prolonged moisture exposure without breaking down
  • No voids or gaps in the inner core, preventing weak spots and delamination over time
  • Tropical hardwood core that is denser and far more impact-resistant than softwood boards
  • Both faces are smooth and pre-sanded, accepting paint, varnish, or laminate without extra preparation
Common Uses in Kenya
  • Roofing Decks: Used as a substrate beneath shingles, sisalation, or metal roofing systems
  • Concrete Formwork: Holds shape under pressure and is reusable multiple times
  • Kitchen & Bathroom Cabinets: Moisture resistance makes them reliable where water contact is unavoidable
  • Flooring: Load-bearing capacity suits both residential and commercial floors
  • Wall Partitioning: Clean, rigid surface ideal for office and home partitions
  • Outdoor Structures: Pergolas, garden structures, and storage units benefit from weather resistance
  • Industrial & Warehouse Flooring: Handles heavy equipment and foot traffic without giving way
Pro Tip: When using marine boards for roofing, install sisalation underlayment immediately after laying the boards to protect them from rain exposure during the construction phase.
